Master data is THE central hub of your digital warehouse management. After the initial entry when setting up your warehouse, it must be consistently maintained and updated so that the orders in your warehouse can be processed effectively and without problems.

The master data gives you important information about an item and influences the handling within the warehouse. For example, you can use information such as dimensions and weight to determine the appropriate storage location. Your stocks show you how much goods are in the warehouse and when replenishment is needed.

To set up the master data with Warehouse Star, all you need is a workstation with a browser and the Master Data web app.

All data can be entered either via an EDI interface, via CSV import or manually via the web interface.

🥳 Here we go!

First you create an article master.

Item master data is the basic master data of an item (e.g. "Cleaning tablets long-lasting freshness 60 pieces"). This includes e.g.:

  • Identification - like article number, EAN code
  • Description - like article short description, manufacturer type designation
  • Classification - such as ERP product group number
  • Characteristics - like weight, color
  • Order information - such as order unit, minimum order quantity
  • Additional multimedia data - such as images, PDF files
  • Classifications - such as customs goods, dangerous goods

Once the item master data has been created, the warehouse structure is set up. A warehouse consists of different storage bins, each storage bin consisting of a storage type and a storage bin master. The storage type determines for which process a bin is intended - such as picking, goods issue or receipt, or storage. goods issue or receipt, or storage.

In the storage bin master it is recorded which type of loading equipment is permitted, how of loading equipment of a certain type can be accommodated and which dimensions and weight specifications of the storage bin.

For this purpose, the master data for loading aids must also be entered, i.e. the aids, with which the goods are moved in the warehouse. Examples are "Euro pallet", "Container 60x40", or "Carton small". The dimensions and weights of the loading aids are particularly important here.

In the partner master data, information is maintained on all the actors involved, their contacts, address data and role assignments. The latter would be e.g. customer, supplier, shipping service provider or client.

Once you have comprehensively entered all master data, you can start setting up the processes. the processes. In the next article in this series, we will report on goods receipt with our Incoming goods web app and our Incoming goods mobile app.
